As the landscape of marijuana laws, policies, and use continues to grow and become normalized, health care professionals need to know how cannabis affects their patient’s cognitive functioning, health, and well being. Join us as we learn the latest essential medical information regarding marijuana from nationally renowned experts.
Learning Objectives:
1) An ability to articulate clearly and distinctly the differences between and among; non-smoked components of marijuana for medicinal purposes, smoked marijuana for recreational uses, different components (eg CBD, THC), and how medical marijuana has worked in various U.S. states to present day.
2) Competently conversant in the differences between Schedule I and II regarding marijuana, as well as pressing issues related to marijuana policy in the United States.
3) Competency to examine and give an overview about the current debate about legalization, and in particular recent developments surrounding marijuana for medical purposes
4) Articulate a foundational understanding of data monitoring systems currently in place both nationally, and in states, designed to track progress and consequences of the changing marijuana policy landscape.
5) Describe various medical associations' positional statements on the evidence surrounding marijuana's use in medicine
6) List at least a half dozen important drug-to-drug interactions of which to be aware when treating patients who use marijuana products
7) State the current impact of marijuana upon youth, including without limitation; psychosocial development, educational deficits, and other neurobiophysiological effects.

Kevin A. Sabet, Ph.D.
Dubbed the “prodigy of drug politics” by NBC News, author, consultant, former advisor to three U.S. presidential administrations, affiliated fellow at Yale University, and adjunct professor, Kevin A. Sabet, Ph.D., has researched and implemented drug policy for 25 years. He has served Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama, having been the only drug policy staffer to have ever served as a political appointee in a Democratic and Republican administration. He is the author of a new book, Smokescreen: What the Marijuana Industry Doesn't Want You to Know, distributed by Simon & Schuster, and has been featured in virtually every major media publication and news channel on the subject of drug policy. He is the co-founder, with former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy, and President of SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana), the only national organization with a staff in Washington DC working exclusively on smart marijuana policy issues. He has a doctorate from Oxford University and a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Kenneth Finn
Dr. Kenneth Finn is a graduate of the University of Texas at Houston in 1990 and he completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1994. He is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. He has been on the Exam Council for the American Board of Pain Medicine since 2001 and is also Level II accredited to perform impairment ratings for injured workers in the State of Colorado. Dr. Finn is a member of 1. American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 2. the American Academy of Pain Medicine, 3. the Spine Intervention Society. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast, has been a medical advisor for Running and Fitness Magazine, and enjoys treating patients with spine and sports-related injuries.
